General description
2-Nitrophenyl octyl ether (NPOE) is an organic solvent, which is mainly used as a plasticizer and a charge transferring liquid that can be used in electrochemical devices. Its water solubility is low and has a high molar volume with a relative permittivity of 24.2.
Application
NPOE can be used as a plasticizer in a polymeric inclusion membrane (PIM) that enhances the transport of copper(II) in the solution of ammonia. It can be incorporated in a cellulose tri-acetate/carbon nanotube (CTA/CNT) based membrane, which is used in the transport and detection of melamine from milk samples.
Features and Benefits
May be used as a plasticizer for cellulose triacetate membranes providing impermeability to metal cations, but allowing anion exchange.

In this study, we developed and compared three different methods for chromium speciation in water samples using microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs). In all methods, detection was based on the complexation reaction of Cr(VI) with diphenylcarbazide on the μPADs. Cr(III)
