General description
凝集素是糖类结合蛋白，由4个亚基组成，分子量为125 kDa。白细胞凝集素PHA-L是一种植物凝集素，通过中枢神经系统的神经元传递。
Application
凝集素,来自菜豆（红芸豆）已用于：
- 用作处理细胞的阳性对照
- 刺激细胞培养物用于淋巴细胞增殖分析
- 刺激T细胞
Biochem/physiol Actions
凝集素可凝集细胞并沉淀多糖和糖蛋白。它与毒性过敏原和血凝素有关。凝集素呈现抗癌、抗人类免疫缺陷病毒（抗HIV）和抗微生物感染特性。凝集素可抑制黏膜萎缩、减轻2型糖尿病和肥胖症状、加强营养吸收并调节药物靶向。
PHA由两种分子种类组成，即具有低促有丝分裂活性和高红细胞凝集素活性的红细胞凝集素（PHA-E），和具有高促有丝分裂和白细胞凝集活性但具有非常低的红细胞凝集活性的白细胞凝集素（PHA-L）。
PHA-E不具有血型特异性，但其凝集活性可被某些低聚糖抑制。 在分离和纯化红细胞凝集素和白细胞凝集素之前，PHA-P是PHA的蛋白质形式。 PHA-M是粘蛋白形式。 结合物由相应的纯化凝集素进行制备。

Analysis Note
凝集活性以 μg/ml 表示，并由 1 mg/ml 溶液的连续稀释液测定。该活性是在 25℃ 温育 1 小时后凝集人红细胞（2％ 在磷酸盐缓冲盐水，pH6.8）或人白细胞（107/mL，在盐水中）的悬浮液的最低浓度。
