General description

Chemical structure: tetracycline

Biochem/physiol Actions

Because it is excreted more slowly than tetracycline, it maintains effective blood levels for longer periods of time.
Demeclocycline hydrochloride is a tetracycline antibiotic derived from a strain of Streptomyces aureofaciens. DMC protects neurons from glutamate induced toxicity by suppressing calpain I and II activities.
Used to study mechanisms of bacterial protein synthesis inhibition at the level of the 30S subunit and aminoacy-tRNA A-site binding.

Traditional culture-based techniques for assessing infection of the root canal system are difficult to use and prone to error. Real-time assessment of the microbial status of the root canal system using laser fluorescence would help address these limitations. This study
