General description
苏木精是从墨水树（Heamatoxylum campechianum）中提取的嗜碱性染料。它可与酸性化合物特异性结合，因此可用于染色含有酸性物质的细胞核：DNA和RNA。苏木精被氧化后会形成苏木素，呈浅蓝紫色。在光学显微镜下的组织学研究中，苏木精经常与曙红一起使用。

苏木精已用于：
- 可视化解剖特，检测脑干样品中与导水管周围灰色区域相邻的核蓝斑核
- 用作核复染剂用苏木精试剂复染脂肪细胞可视化核
