General description
α-胎儿蛋白(AFP)是胎肝、胃肠道和卵黄囊中存在的主要糖蛋白之一。羊水中的AFP水平已被用作无脑畸形和脊柱裂的生物指标。
AFP是一种血浆蛋白，在人类胎儿中高度表达，其功能是阻断雌二醇在胎盘中的转运。
单克隆抗α-胎蛋白(AFP)（小鼠IgG2亚型）来自于小鼠骨髓瘤细胞和BALB/c小鼠脾细胞融合并通过纯化人胎α蛋白免疫产生的C3杂交瘤细胞。

Biochem/physiol Actions
血清中α-胎蛋白(AFP)浓度的增加在胃肠道恶性肿瘤和其他器官系统有大量肝转移的患者中并不常见。因此，AFP测定对于某些含有卵黄囊结构的生殖系肿瘤（睾丸肿瘤和卵巢瘤）、肝细胞癌（肝癌）和部分胃肠道恶性肿瘤的诊断是有用的。AFP是某些基因和胚胎缺陷的重要标志物。针对有神经管缺陷风险的孕妇进行常规筛查（脊柱裂、无脑畸形和唐氏综合征′）可以通过监测AFP水平实现。
