双氯芬酸钠盐是一种非甾体类抗炎药(NSAID),可作为前列腺素合成酶的竞争性和不可逆的抑制剂。其镇痛和抗炎活性基于环加氧酶的抑制活性来预防花生四烯酸代谢物的合成。研究发现它可阻碍花生四烯酸转化为前列腺素,其中前列腺素可介导炎症过程。NSAID被发现可抑制环氧合酶COX-1和COX-2,从而引起非期望的胃肠道作用。双氯芬酸钠还起到清除自由基的作用,并且在恢复由辐射损坏的质粒DNA的超螺旋结构方面起到辐射保护作用。双氯芬酸钠通过电子的给予和氢原子的转移而被氧化。它可以作为潜在的辐射防护剂。
