General description
铁蛋白是一种铁贮藏蛋白，通常存在于哺乳动物的肝脏和脾脏中。铁和铁蛋白在眼内的分布基本相同。铁蛋白由重链和轻链组成。
Application
从马脾阳离子化的铁蛋白已用于：
- 在研究中孵育阿米巴 (106)，确定滋养体是否能够吸收铁蛋白并内化该蛋白，使其在无菌培养中生长
- 通过电子显微镜检查确定吞噬体-溶酶体融合
- 在无血清孵育介质中标记新鲜切除的鸡视神经盖

Biochem/physiol Actions
铁蛋白将铁保持在其三价铁状态 (Fe 3 + )。铁蛋白的核心具有容纳 4500 个铁分子的能力。在脊椎动物中储存铁是必不可少的。铁蛋白在无脊椎动物中也是储存和运输铁的必需物质，并在膳食铁吸收中起关键作用。
