General description

该基因编码RNA结合FOX蛋白家族的成员，参与调节前体mRNA的选择性剪接。该蛋白具有一个N-末端富含脯氨酸的区域、一个RNA识别基序（RRM）结构域以及一个C-末端富含丙氨酸的区域。该基因可产生神经元核（NeuN）抗原，广泛应用于有丝分裂后神经元的标记物。该基因在中枢神经系统中有最高表达，并在神经组织发育以及成人脑功能调节中起着重要作用。该基因的突变与许多神经系统疾病有关。该基因的可变剪接导致多个转录变体编码不同的异构体。
