Biochem/physiol Actions
27-羟基胆固醇是一种外围衍生的氧固醇，由CYP27A1酶产生。人们对氧固醇，尤其是大脑中的氧固醇越来越感兴趣。脑胆固醇代谢受损与几种神经退行性疾病有关。27-羟基胆固醇可穿过血脑屏障并与阿尔茨海默病有关。它在体外可作为LXRα和LXRβ的激活剂，EC50值分别为85和71 nM，其也是是胆固醇合成的抑制剂。 27-羟基胆固醇还被证明可与雌激素受体-α (ERα)和Erβ结合，充当内源性选择性雌激素受体调节剂(SERM)。在乳腺癌的鼠模型中，27-羟基胆固醇可显著增加肿瘤的生长和转移。
