Gene Information
human ... NLRP3(114548)
General description
NLRPs (Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain, Leucine rich Repeat and Pyrin domain containing Proteins) are members of NLR (Nod-like receptors) protein family. NRLP genes are known to play important roles in both the mammalian reproductive system and the innate immune system. NLRP3 may function as an inducer of apoptosis, activator of NF-kappa-B signaling and activates caspase-1 in response to triggers such as bacterial or viral infection. NLRP3 defects are linked to familial cold autoinflammatory syndrome type 1 (FCAS1), Muckle-Wells syndrome (MWS) and chronic infantile neurologic cutaneous and articular syndrome (CINCA). NLRP3 is highly expressed in blood leukocytes, polymorphonuclear cells, osteoblasts and chondrocytes.
~112 kDa and ~75 kDa observed. Five isoforms are known to exist at 118 kDa, 112 kDa, 112 kDa, 106 kDa, and 84 kDa This protein has been observed at ~75 kDa in some cell lysates (Kummer, J. A., et al. (2007). J Histochem Cytochem. 55(5):443-452.). Uncharacterized bands may be observed in some cell lysates.

Primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is characterized by chronic periductal inflammatory infiltrates in the salivary glands. Several previous studies have indicated that the ductal epithelia of SS patients play a pro-inflammatory role and manifest an intrinsically activated status, as demonstrated in
