Application

PEI has a high affinity for various metal ions and can be used to fabricate nanofibrous affinity membranes for the removal of heavy metal ions in wastewater.

It can be used to prepare potential gene delivery carriers as it can buffer the acidic pH of the lysosome and protect the DNA from degradation.

PEIfunctionalized monoliths can be used to immobilize enzymes without alteringtheir activity.

Features and Benefits

  • Good biocompatibility
  • Flexible polymer chain
  • It can be easily modified or functionalized for specific features
  • High transfection efficiency

Other Notes

Crosslinked polyethylenimine is used as enzyme carrier

Professor Yoshiki Katayama (Kyushu University, Japan) discusses recent advances in drug delivery systems and strategies that exploit the EPR effect, with a special focus on stimuli-responsive systems based on novel materials.

We present an article that discusses two applications in particular; first, using these layers as polyelectrolyte membranes to control permeability.
