General description

Citric acid monohydrate is an organic acid. Its molar enthalpy of solution in water has been reported to be ΔsolHm (298.15K, m = 0.0203molkg-1) = (29061 ± 123)Jmol-1

Application

Citric acid monohydrate may be used in the diltiazem hydrochloride (drug) and melt extruded Eudragit RS PO (polymer) formulations. It improves the solubility of drug in the polymer matrix. It may be used to prepare citrate buffer for use in the intravital microscopic studies of adhesion and aggregation of platelets.

Atherosclerotic vascular lesions are considered to be a major cause of ischemic diseases, including myocardial infarction and stroke. Platelet adhesion and aggregation during ischemia-reperfusion are thought to be the initial steps leading to remodeling and reocclusion of the postischemic vasculature.
