General description

(-)-Linalool is a monoterpene that is an important constituent of essential oils like lavender oil.
(−)-Linalool is a naturally occurring enantiomer of linalool, a monoterpene compound present as a major volatile component in the essential oil of several aromatic species. It is an important flavor and fragrance ingredient employed in the cosmetic industry for neutralizing unpleasant odors that may be present in the chemicals or to enhance the individuality and appeal of products. The anti-inflammatory activity of (−)-linalool found in distilled or extracted essential oil is investigated.

Application

(−)-Linalool may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in the following:
  • Tea samples using headspace-solid phase microextraction, followed by enantioselective gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (HS-SPME-GC-FID).
  • Food matrices using headspace-solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled to gas chromatography–combustion-isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC–C-IRMS).

(-)-Linalool has also been used as a reference standard in the quantitative determination of lavender oil in lavaflam tablets using gas chromatography method of analysis(GC).
Refer to the product′s Certificate of Analysis for more information on a suitable instrument technique. Contact Technical Service for further support.
