General description
Ficoll® Solution is a highly branched polymer of sucrose, also known as polydisperse mixtures of dextran. Ficoll® molecules are inert and not re-absorbed by proximal tubules. The structure is open and deformable, and not a rigid sphere thereby becoming a preferred choice in “crowding” experiments.
Used in electrophoresis and as a hapten carrier. Most commonly used to prepare density gradients.
Application
Ficoll® has been used in
- Isolation of cord blood mononuclear cells
- Isolation of CD133 negative cells
- Isolation and expansion of circulating endothelial progenitor cells.
Other Notes
A nonionic synthetic polymer of sucrose.
Legal Information
Ficoll is a registered trademark of Cytiva

The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between plasma sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) and ceramide concentrations in sepsis, and the possible mechanisms for altered expression. Plasma S1P and ceramide concentrations were measured by HPLC-ESI-MS/MS. HLA-DR (human leukocyte antigen-DR) expression
