U-87 MG Cell Line human

U-87 MG cell line has been used to study the effects of the lysosomal destabilizing drug Siramesine on glioblastoma. It has also been used to study calcium-independent disruption of microtubule dynamics by nanosecond pulsed electric fields.

Neural studies

Derived from a malignant glioma from a female patient by explant technique. It is reported to produce a malignant tumour consistent with glioblastoma in nude mice.

EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 1mM Sodium Pyruvate (NaP) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm² using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO₂; 37°C.

This cell line is part of the European Collection of Authenticated Cell Cultures (ECACC), an international repository managed by the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA). No licensing agreement is required when either this cell line or the DNA extracted from it are used for internal research purposes only.
