General description

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) is a hydrophilic linear polymer that forms copolymers of vinyl alcohol and vinyl acetate. It is prepared by alkaline hydrolysis. It is known to possess high mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and non-toxicity. Modified- PVOH structures are useful in biomedical applications.

Application

Poly(vinyl alcohol) has been used in the preparation of multilayer active film for its antimicrobial analysis. It has also been used to study the effect of protein supplements on porcine parthenotes.
Poly(vinyl alcohol) is also suitable for:
  • in vitro production (IVP) of bovine embryos
  • oocyte recovery and in vitro maturation
  • as a macromolecular component in basal cultured medium.
